Newbie, and totally confused

I just came across tiddlywiki, thought it something i’d like to try as a substitute for Onenote and Clipcache for storing data. The first bewildering statement was that I couldn’t save a tiddlywiki using file>save, that i had to pick one of the mysterious apps listed. hence i am looking at noteself.

  1. embedded in my browser? (Vivaldi). what happens if I switch browsers?
  2. when I sync vivaldi between computers (which I do manually, since Vivaldi Sync doesn’t work), will the wiki sync?
  3. how do keep a copy at cloud site, or on a flash drive in case I want to use it from a non synced device? Since it isn’t a standalone file.
4 there is a link at noteself site to download empty.html . How is this different than tiddlywiki empty.html? What is noteself if it is the same as the tiddlywiki empty.html?

And I have not begun to try using tiddlywiki yet. I am already stuck at the “don’t use file>save” warning. This doesn’t bode well. Just sayin’

Hello @astro46, let me try to clarify your doubts.
First, let me say that maybe tiddlywiki is the right tool for you. Yes, you can not save it using file>save, but tiddlywiki has a button that will download a new file with all your content every time you click it, it is this one:

The data it is indeed embeded on your browser, if you change browser, then your data will not be there, it will be like opening a different file.
NoteSelf probably does not work with vivaldy sync. I think they require certain APIs that we don’t use, so unless they sync your browser internal storage, it is useless.

You can’t (not on a comfortable way), for that task just use tiddlywiki and the normal save button. You will be able to carry your entire data in one file.

This empty file is for users that want to publish NoteSelf to their own hosting, it is very different from tiddlywiki empty file. It is basically the same as the online version but you can put it on any host provider.
