It's Official, Microsoft bought GitHub

Microsoft announced they have reached an agreement to purchased GitHub.

I wonder how this will affect Open Source development in the years to come.

I’m not particularly concerned. For four reasons …

(1) The previous owners of GitHub were not exactly actively lovely pro open source. The mess of the resignation of the boss after controversy.
(2) Microsoft now is softer.
(3) Change won’t happen quickly. You will have time to gauge it.
(4) Most important. There are MILLIONS of developers on GitHub who will vote with their feet IF they feel its getting diminished.

I have mixed feelings about this.
Microsoft is getting more open, and that is good. They made some very good tools such VSCode, but they have also ruined some others. I can’t stand using Skype, for example.

However, as a final user I don’t think anything is going to change that much. If I were a company , then that’s another story
